Germany Electric Vehicle Fluids Market Overview, 2027

Germany Electric Vehicle Fluid Market Size, Share, Trend & Market Analysis By Type, By Distribution Channel, By End User, Competition, Forecast & Opportunities.

The fluids and lubricants which are used in electric vehicles are mainly the substances which are manufactured using base oil and then additives according to the specifications are added which is targeted for particular functionality of electrical vehicle batteries and other parts such as to improve the thermal performance of electrical vehicle. Germany is Europe’s largest economy and the leading automotive nation of the Europe. The Germany government and the automakers there are working very hard to promote the mass acceptance of electric vehicle among the majority of the population. For that reason, a major agreement was done between the government and the automotive industry’s prominent players in 2019 for promoting the mass production of electric vehicles in the country. With this, Germany is becoming electrical vehicle hub in Europe. This agreement fast-tracked the growth path and sudden increase in development of electrical vehicle and its related industry such as charging infrastructure, Electric vehicle battery manufacturing and fluids market also saw a sudden spike in their respective markets. This led to introduction of new 143 electric vehicle by the automakers of which 105 were BEVs and 38 PHEVs alone in 2019. Registrations of full electric vehicles in Germany increased more than 300% in June 2021 according to Germany’s Federal Motor Transport Authority. This data shows also the people’s involvement towards acceptance of electric vehicle specially after the pandemic when the situations have started to normalize somewhat.

According to the report titled "Germany Electric Vehicle Fluids (Heat Transfer, Break, Greece, Drive System) Market Overview, 2027", published by Bonafide Research, the electric vehicle fluid market in Germany is expected to grow with a CAGR of around 19% during the forecasted period. There are further various bifurcations of the electric vehicle fluid industry based on various types, such as types of products, vehicles, and propulsion types. The electric vehicle fluid market is further divided into four sections based on product types, which are grease fluids, brake fluids, heat-transfer fluids, and drive-system fluids. The majority of the market share is occupied by heat-transfer fluids, with over 85% of the value share currently in 2021. This is because during the functioning of an electric vehicle, power is being utilised from the battery, which leads to constant charging and discharging of the battery. This power is supplied to electric motors to perform many revolutions per minute, which can lead to a sufficiently high temperature of the battery, and so coolants and heat transfer fluids are utilised to maintain a stable temperature during its working. E-greases are used as sealants to keep contaminants out of the parts of the electric vehicle so as to improve its efficiency. Regenerative brakes are used in electric vehicles, and in normal scenarios, if regenerative brakes are not used, these vehicles have normal brake discs and pads for these situations, which requires the vehicle to use brake fluid. These two fluids are applied to improve the performance, reliability, safety, and durability of the EV. Drive-system fluids are used in EVs for a reduction in energy losses during the transmission processes.

The division types based on propulsion types are battery electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, and hybrid electric vehicles. Due to ambitious government targets to become carbon neutral by 2045 and to reduce CO2 emissions by 55% by 2030, more and more BEVs are being adopted and they are expected to lead the market share with 70% of overall value share during the forecasted period. PHEVs and HEVs are used for longer ranges as they have an internal combustion engine along with an EV battery. The difference between both these hybrids is that PHEVs use gas engines only once the electric power is depleted, while HEVs use gas engines and electric motors interchangeably to obtain the best fuel efficiency. Passenger cars constitute the majority of market share due to the vast number of BEVs being adopted for short to medium ranges and their home-based charging functionality as these were being adopted early last decade. On the other hand, the commercial vehicle segment, including public transport such as EV buses and trucks, is expected to have increased market growth during the forecast period. This is due to developments being made in charging infrastructure through continuous government and market players' efforts so as to reduce the carbon footprints and other pollutants' emissions from an environmental concern point of view.

The agreement that led to sudden growth during 2019-2020 provided subsidies on the purchase of electric cars, such as buyers of cars priced less than 40,000 Euro will get about 6,000 Euro as compared to 4,000 Euro previously. Similarly, for any plug-in hybrids in this price range will be provided with a subsidy of 4,500 Euro, which was 3,000 Euro previously. But now, as the government is planning to stop subsidies on plug-in hybrid types, their market share is least expected to grow in comparison to BEVs and HEVs. Recent developments in the Germany region in the EV fluid segment are being done by one of the major automotive lubricant players present there, which is Fuchs Petrolub SE. Fuchs has launched its BluEV range of driveline fluids, thermal fluids, motor greases specifically targeted for electric vehicles.

The automotive industry is considered to be an important aspect of Germany’s economy and during the COVID-19 pandemic, automakers were left with no other option but to shut down their factories due to strict lock-downs all over the world. This led to their economy shrinking by more than 2% during the first and second quarters of 2020, which affected electric vehicles and its related fluid markets also. The reasons for the market's decline were disruptions in the supply chain and stringent travel restrictions all across the world. However, post-pandemic, the global electric vehicle fluid market is forecast to gain momentum due to increasing awareness about pollution.
