The skateboarding craze in the UAE originated as a result of COVID-19 lockdown boredom, and it quickly spread across the city as one of the fastest-growing. There are numerous skating spots in Abu Dhabi, particularly in parks and other public locations, which attract an increasing number of skaters. Sheikha Fatima Park, Al Faya Park, Al Reem Park, Hudayriyat Island Circuit X (entry requires a ticket), West Yas Park, Yas South Park, and Corniche Family Urban Park are among them. Some of the most popular skateboarding spots in Dubai are XDubai, Al Mamzar, Damac Hills, The Block, Tashkeel, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Business Bay, Dubai Hills, Nahida, and Adventure Zone Town Square Skatepark. As per the World Bank, the population of the UAE was 10.08 million in 2021, of which 6.93 million were male and 3.13 million were female. Of the total population, 1.5 million are under the age of 14. The population with an age range of 25–54 is 6.55 million. The urban population is 8.2 million, and the rural population is 1.26 million. As per the World Bank, the GDP of the UAE is USD 358.87 billion, the inflation rate was -2.1%, and the per capita income is $36.824 billion (2020). The increasing youth population and the rising popularity of skateboarding among teenagers are major factors in the growth of the skateboard market in the UAE.
According to the research report, "UAE Skateboard Market Overview, 2028," published by Bonafide Research, the market is anticipated to add USD 4.63 Million by the end of 2028. The expanding recreational popularity of skateboarding, as well as the emergence of extreme sports, is predicted to strengthen the UAE skateboard sector. Furthermore, the increasing use of skateboards in schools and colleges as part of physical education curricula is expected to drive skateboard demand throughout the projected period. Skateboard demand has surged as a result of rapid technological improvements and an increase in disposable income. A growing number of skate parks and contests are also propelling the skateboard sector forward. Because of the widespread presence of retail outlets across the country, the offline sector led the market in terms of distribution channels. Some of the specialty and retail stores in the UAE for skateboards include Rage Skate Shop, Evolve Skateboards UAE, Dynamics Sports Al Ghurair Centre, GO Sport, Vans, Decathlon, and Surf House Dubai. The online category is likely to rise significantly during the projected period due to increased internet usage, convenience, time savings, and other considerations.
The six start-ups in the cycle in the Middle East and Africa are Flip Technologies, a skateboard wearable company; GitHelp, a platform for "verified hackers"; Pavilion33, an online marketplace for fine art from the region; Sakkini, a property portal; and Kiddapp, a start-up spinoff of Achtoons, an Italian animation production company, which aims to create educational and entertainment apps for children and young people. Moving ahead, Flat6Labs Abu Dhabi intends to help 80 companies over the next four years, with each cycle—two per year—supporting ten start-ups. Arada, a UAE developer, recently opened the third and final phase of Aljada Skate Park, which is believed to be the largest facility of its sort in the Middle East. Aljada Skate Park, which spans 90,000 square feet, includes a beginner portion, an intermediate section, and a pro-level street and park segment, allowing the facility to host global standard contests.
