In water purifier market, distribution channel of different type of water purifier is clearly different. RO water purifier is majorly sold by unorganised whereas UV and UV are forte of organised players.
The water purifier market in India has witnessed a growth in recent years and the surge in growth is majorly originated from growth in the organized sector and the availability of affordable purifiers. Organized water purifier market comprises of large companies such as Eureka Forbes, Kent RO, HUL, Livpure and Tata which posses the maximum market share in the organized sector. The Indian market for water purifiers is witnessing noteworthy changes as a result of introduction of new technologies, such as ultra-filtration, micro filtration, combination systems etc. Kent introduced RO technology in India in 1999. Introduction of new technologies and availability of low cost purifiers from large companies has increased the penetration of UV water purifiers. Most new entrants are also quite capable of investing in R&D and are not lagging behind in innovation. Unorganised players have chosen online distribution channel for their products, they offer same features of branded one in lower cost which has also intended people to buy water purifier from them. Eureka Forbes is offering RO water purifiers under the brand names, Aquaguard and Aquasure, with the former being sold through direct sales channel while the latter is sold via the retail channel. On the other hand, Kent is leader in RO water purifier and HUL is in offline or gravity based water purifier under brand name ' Pureit'. Thus, in the total organised market, UV and UF water purifier holds more than 70% in volume terms whereas Ro water purifier hold more than 60% in volume terms.
